In Memoriam

Cecile Richards, our beloved co-founder and one of the nation’s leading defenders of abortion access, died on Jan. 20, 2025 after a two-year battle with brain cancer.

Cecile was a tireless champion of women’s rights, reproductive freedom, and social and economic justice. She authored the New York Times bestselling memoir “Make Trouble.” As President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund for 12 years, Cecile worked to increase affordable access to reproductive health care and to build a healthier and safer world for women and young people. After starting her career as a labor organizer, working with women earning the minimum wage, she went on to start her own grassroots organizations, and later served as Deputy Chief of Staff to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. In 2011 and 2012, she was named one of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World.

Cecile’s visionary leadership, commitment to justice, and lifelong dedication to advancing the rights of women will forever inspire us. Her wisdom and her capacity for joy are lessons we will each hold with us tight as we bring the world she worked for even closer to reality. Supermajority Ed Fund will honor Cecile’s legacy by ensuring that her courageous passion and her kindness live on in every action we take. We will continue to strive to make the world she dreamed of a reality for generations to come.
