Supermajority co-founder Deirdre Schifeling has over 20 years of experience in organizing work. Deirdre is excited to continue her activism as a co-founder of Supermajority and hopes to build a national cross-organization structural democracy campaign in order to unrig our government and elections and change the balance of power in a lasting way.
Before helping found Supermajority, Deirdre was the Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Votes. In this role, she led the strategy and execution of the organization’s electoral work at the state and national level. Under her tenure, Planned Parenthood created a federation-wide organizing model and training program, quadrupled its supporter base to 12 million strong, built one of the largest Independent Expenditure programs in the country, and expanded its capacity to win state legislative fights. Deirdre continues to support the important work of Planned Parenthood as a Senior Adviser to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
Early in her career, Deirdre was an organizer of the Working Families Party in New York, co-founded the Center for Working Families, led politics and campaigns for the New York State Senate democratic Minority and later Majority, and was a union organizer for UNITE and United Steelworkers of America.
Ms. Schifeling is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and currently resides in Takoma Park, Md. with her husband and three lively children.
